Advice for air travel

Here are some tips on how to travel by plane:

Book your ticket:

You can book your ticket either online or through a travel agent. Make sure to book in advance to get the best deals.

Pack your bags:

Check with your airline about their baggage policy, including the size and weight limitations for your checked and carry-on bags. Remember to pack your liquids in a clear, plastic bag and to follow the TSA guidelines for prohibited items.

Arrive at the airport early:

You should arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight's scheduled departure time. This will give you enough time to check in, go through security, and get to your gate.

Check-in:

You can check in online or at the airport. If you're checking in at the airport, look for signs indicating where to check-in. You will need your ID and your boarding pass.

Go through security:

Be prepared to remove your shoes, belt, and any jewelry, and place your liquids and electronics in separate bins for screening. Follow the TSA's guidelines for carry-on items and liquids.

Board the plane:

Listen for announcements indicating when your flight is boarding, and follow the signs to your gate. You may have to present your boarding pass and ID again before boarding the plane.

Why It Make Sense To Pack Light

As a budget traveler, it is essential that you pack light. After all, you are on a budget so any unnecessary money you need to spend will affect the quality of your vacation. Making the mistake of overpacking would cost you greatly as you would need to spend more money on porters, baggage carts, taxis, and all those other expenses that could have been avoided. Though these charges may appear trivial they would add up quite quickly, and even more so if your vacation involves traveling to several places.

Think of someone who has packed light that might only have a knapsack or a small carryon, they would be at ease taking the low-cost bus to town. Now the traveler who has several suitcases would not feel as comfortable taking the bus so would have to hire a taxi, which is way more expensive.

It is quite easy to identify how overpacking can affect not only your budget but also your time while traveling. So, here are some tips for packing light.

If possible, try to prevent having extra luggage that you would need to check-in. This is because you would avoid that long-dreaded wait at the baggage claim. Which simply means you would be able to start enjoying your trip much earlier. Remember time is money, and you want to get as much time as you can to do the things that would make your trip more enjoyable.

Some airlines permit one carryon and a handbag.  Take advantage of those that do, by carrying a large bag as you can pack things like your toiletries and cosmetics in, saving valuable space in your baggage.

Another tip you can use is to wear clothing and shoes while on the plane that would have taken up a lot of space in your suitcase. So, if you are planning on packing boots or sneakers, wear them instead and pack the shoes that take up less space. Also, if you are packing clothing such as a jacket or coat consider wearing them while traveling, if it is suitable.

A key piece of advice in reducing the amount of clothing you pack is to plan your outfits sensibly. If for example, you have a black skirt or pants, pack a couple of classy shirts to coordinate with it.  Scarves, ties and different pieces of jewelry added to your look, would make it seem that you have several outfits.

Instead of packing that cumbersome bathrobe you might want to consider packing an oversized t-shirt as an alternative. It would have more uses as you can wear it after you shower and as a coverup for your swimwear.

Shoes tend to take up a lot of space in your suitcase. To limit the number of shoes you need to pack, choose one that serves several purposes. Having a pair of shoes that are comfortable and stylish would eliminate the need to pack several pairs.

The method you use when packing makes a huge difference in the amount of space you would need. Try rolling your clothes instead of folding them, they would not only take up less space but be wrinkle-free.

Make sure your toiletries are travel size. To save money and space, frequent travelers use small shampoo, conditioners, and soaps they have collected from hotels when they travel.

Finally, eliminate the need for having to buy an extra bag for your purchases on your trip home. Pack an additional foldable bag in your luggage.
