Traveling with your Dog

If you have a dog that does not mean you have to stay home with it. Planning ahead would make traveling with your dog easy and fun.

These are some tips that would help make your trips stressfree:

Take short trips with your dog so it gets accustomed to going in the car.  Make your trip fun by visiting places like dog parks, your favorite fast-food drive-thru (feed him bits of your food), or at your friends. You want him to think that car trips can be fun and not just a trip to the Vet's office.

If you find that your dog tends to get car sick, avoid feeding him before your trip.  Traveling with an empty stomach will prevent him from getting sick.

Make sure to have lots of water and a dish as you would need to give him water frequently whenever you stop. A dog's nose is quite sensitive so if you give him water he is not familiar with, he would know the difference from the smell or even the taste and might not drink it.

Don’t forget to pack his favorite food, treats, toys,  bed, and a leash.

Some dogs have crates, if yours do, you might want to pack it as well. If it is too bulky for your vehicle, consider buying one that folds. This is convenient for when you reach your destination, as you can leave him in the crate if you have to go somewhere, he not allowed.

When traveling in the car, your dog might want to sit or lay on the seat, be sure to have a blanket to cover your seat. Some dogs are kept in a crate if you put your dog in a crate make sure you place it in a position where it cannot slide as this may frighten him while you are driving.

As an extra precaution, you can purchase a seat belt for your dog to keep him safe when sitting in your car.

It is essential to stop every couple of hours so you can give your dog a walk and some water. You might want to do this in a quiet area away from the traffic, so he doesn’t get scared. Remember to pack plastic bags so you can pick up your dog’s mess.

Some dogs get anxious while staying in a strange environment such as a hotel or house. This may cause them to refuse to eat or drink. If this is the case with your dog, make sure he drinks to avoid getting dehydrated. You can add some chicken broth or gravy to the water and the food. This usually gets them to start drinking and eating.

After the first trip with your dog, if you make it a pleasant one for him, your subsequent trips would be much easier.

Should you purchase Travel Insurance when you have Booked a Holiday

If you have booked a holiday and have travel insurance and you decide to cancel your holiday, you would not be refunded.  You are only covered if the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued a warning against traveling to a country or advised all but essential travel to that particular country.  Your travel insurance policy does not cover you if you decide to no longer travel.

As soon as you book your trip it is best to purchase travel insurance so if something happens before you travel, you are covered. For example, if you have booked a holiday for this year and you have travel insurance, and the Foreign and Commonwealth office issues a warning against travel to your destination, you would not have to worry because you are covered. If, however, you delay getting travel insurance for your trip and a warning has been issued about traveling to that country then you are not covered.

So far, the FCO has advised against all travel to Hubei Province in China because of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.  They have also issued all-but-essential travel for mainland China.

It is important therefore that if you have a holiday booked and you don’t have travel insurance get it right away. Also, make sure whenever you book a holiday in the future you always get travel insurance as soon as you book so you would not lose out.

Coronavirus and your Travel Plans

Since the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), there has been considerable travel interruption.  Many are wondering what their rights are if they decide to cancel their flight.

If your travel insurance policy includes “cancel for any reason” then you should expect to be refunded if you cancel your travel because of the virus. Those who purchase standard travel insurance policies are covered for “unexpected events”.

Insurers have stated that if an event turns out to be common knowledge it is then excluded from coverage. In this case, around the 21st of January, the coronavirus was no longer considered to be an unexpected event as it has since spread worldwide.

Therefore, any travel insurance policies purchased after this date would not cover the outbreak. All is not lost, however, as a few airlines are currently waiving their fees if you cancel or change your flight because of fear of infection.

Travel insurers are expecting an increase in the purchase of travel insurance policies that cover “cancel for any reason”. If you decide to purchase this insurance for your travel you would be able to get back 75% of your travel cost if you cancel.

Generally, you have around 14 to 21 days after you have deposited a fee for your trip to purchase this travel insurance policy. Take note that you will have to insure the full cost of your trip and would need to cancel 48 hours before your planned departure.

If you are traveling overseas you might want to think about getting medical coverage which may include the options of being treated at a local health center, emergency medical treatment, and evacuation should you become ill. Make sure to read your policy keenly so you are clear about what you are covered for.

Finally, you need to have a plan in place should you become ill while traveling. Arrange a daily schedule to check in with a friend or family member. Also, be sure to make contact if something goes wrong.

Different Ways You Can Travel For A Holiday

Lots of people wish they can go on an all-inclusive cruise vacation and travel to beautiful destinations. Unfortunately for many that is not feasible. As although they may find low-priced cruises, they are not always within their means. Luckily, a cruise is not the only way to travel and see the world, as there are many more affordable ways of traveling.

Every year many people look forward to going on road trips, as an alternative to a more costly cruise vacation.  They travel with groups of friends or family and drive across the country.  Leisurely exploring various areas that they have never been or seen before. This makes for an adventurous and enjoyable vacation.

If you can afford a little more than the cost of a road trip, you may want to consider going on a private yacht for an excursion. Or flying overseas and staying at a hotel or resort might be more to your liking. This is a good way to unwind and have new experiences, making for a great vacation.

For a more exciting holiday, you might want to try backpacking. Many budget travelers backpack across a country for just a few dollars a day, which helps them to get a more authentic feel of the history, cuisine, and culture.

Regardless of which means of travel you choose. They are certainly other inexpensive options than taking a cruise.
