Traveler or Tourist

At some points in your life, you might have been a tourist. You have taken a map, and a camera or maybe even had a tour guide on a trip. You have traveled to various destinations, relaxed on beautiful beaches, climbed stairs in buildings you have seen on television. You have done all the typical things a tourist would do, yet, when you arrive home all you have of your vacation is a few photographs.

It is good to take a vacation occasionally. However, why travel thousands of miles just to stay in your hotel room and watch movies, or lie outside on the pool deck to catch some rays? After all, you can do these things at home. To be a traveler and not a tourist. You would need to immerse yourself in the culture of the country you have traveled to. During your vacation, you want to experience and understand their way of life.

Try to avoid packing the things you depend on in America. Just pack what is necessary to survive and stay healthy on your trip. In that way, you would not rely on them while vacationing and it will enable you to become more of the traveler that you should be.

Get out and interact with the natives. Meet different people, experience new things. Be receptive to fresh ideas and opportunities, as this can help to improve your life. So be open, willing and accepting.

This is your chance to experience the world differently. Therefore, leave the tourist at home and let your inner traveler shine through.
